Executive Knowledge Exchange 2026: ICW and Babcock Driving Cross-Sector Collaboration

ICW, in partnership with Babcock International Group, hosted an Executive Knowledge Exchange at Babcock's London headquarters on 19 March 2026.

The event brought together senior leaders from a number of sectors, including defence, construction, aviation, nuclear, and artificial intelligence, creating a dynamic forum focused on advancing collaboration as a strategic capability. Discussions explored cross-sector partnerships, SME engagement, and practical approaches to embedding collaborative working across organisations.

Simon Reid, Managing Director at Babcock International Group, chaired the session, highlighting that effective collaboration is no longer optional - it is essential for organisations working successfully with customers, suppliers, and SMEs. Frank Lee, ICW CEO, welcomed attendees and reinforced the value of cross-company and cross-sector knowledge sharing, noting how these exchanges strengthen both individual organisations and the wider collaborative ecosystem.

The session featured contributions from leaders across ICW's Executive Network, offering real-world insights and diverse perspectives on driving cross-sector collaboration. Key highlights included:

Simon Reid (Babcock International Group) - Simon shared the intent behind Babcock's SME Charter, illustrating how it fosters stronger collaboration with smaller suppliers and partners. The charter is openly available for use and adoption by other organisations via the Babcock website.

Denis Leonard (Graham Group) - Denis highlighted Graham's 'Collaborative Leading Edge' recognition, explaining how it supports the company's ambition to embed collaborative working practices at all levels.

Gary Shuttleworth and Emma Bevilacqua (Morgan Sindall) - They explored how Morgan Sindall is integrating ISO 44001 principles across its business, demonstrating both the challenges and successes of embedding collaboration strategically across projects and teams.

Anuj Puri (UST) - Anuj provided a forward-looking perspective on AI in collaboration, exploring how emerging technologies can enhance connectivity, decision-making, and cross-organisational working.

Q&A and Open Executive Discussion - Attendees engaged in a lively, interactive discussion, exchanging insights, debating challenges, and identifying practical ways to bring collaborative ideas back into their organisations.

The event reinforced ICW's commitment to championing cross-sector learning and collaborative practice, connecting leaders, and promoting actionable insights for improved organisational performance. ICW will continue to host Executive Exchange sessions in the future. The ICW Leaders Course brings Delegates from around the Globe to Warwick

The ICW March Leaders Course held last week at Warwick University was truly an international affair, with delegates coming from Canada, Australia, Wales, and England to do the course.

Collaborative Female Leaders Lunch at the House of Lords

The Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW) recently brought together a group of outstanding female collaborative leaders for a business lunch at the House of Lords. The event was hosted by ICW Chairman Lord John Hannett of Everton, along with ICW CEO Frank Lee.

The lunch formed part of ICW's ongoing commitment to collaborative leadership, inclusive partnerships and cross-sector engagement. Bringing together senior women from across sectors and our executive network, the session provided a valuable opportunity for open dialogue, insight sharing and the exchange of perspectives on strengthening collaboration and delivering lasting value.

Supporting Collaborative Leadership and Inclusive Participation

ICW has long championed diverse perspectives and inclusive collaboration as essential elements of successful partnership working. The lunch provided an opportunity to explore how ICW can continue strengthening its collaborative and inclusive culture, ensuring that talented professionals from a wide range of backgrounds feel welcome and represented within our collaborative community.

Key themes included:

Encouraging member organisations to put forward talented female leaders to participate in ICW events, programmes and leadership initiatives.
Strengthening the participation of women in collaborative leadership roles across sectors.
Exploring opportunities to form an ongoing informal advisory group that ICW can consult as it continues to develop initiatives that support inclusive collaboration.

Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) joins ICW Executive Network

We are delighted to welcome NRS to The Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW) Executive Network.

NRS is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority responsible for safely decommissioning the first-generation nuclear and research sites across the UK and restoring the sites for all our futures.

NRS also operates a hydro-electric power plant and are preparing to welcome the seven advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR) sites, currently managed by EDF, for decommissioning. Hunterston B site, located in Scotland, will be the first AGR site to join NRS in April 2026, followed by the Hinkley Point B site, located in Somerset, in the autumn.

Dounreay, is located at the far north of Scotland and was Britain's former centre of fast reactor research and development. The experimental nature of many of its redundant facilities means the clean-up and demolition requires innovation as well as great care. The intention is to decommission Dounreay and leave it in a safe condition for future generations. The skills and enterprise it fosters are giving Scottish companies a platform to compete in the global decommissioning market.

Sellafield ICW 44001 Leaders Course

A new chapter in ICW history was written at Sellafield this week, when Leigh Lawry and Paul Connor delivered an on-site ICW 44001 Leaders Course at Hinton House, Sellafield's Warrington Office.

All nine female candidates, who were drawn from the Sellafield group of Companies and their supply chains members, reached and passed the required marks to pass the course and be enrolled into the Institute as members.

Collaboration with SMEs: Creating an Engine for Growth in the UK Defence Sector

The Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW) recently hosted an invitation-only working lunch at the House of Lords, kindly supported by Leidos, our long-standing Ambassador Member.

The event brought together senior leaders from across the UK defence industry, including representatives from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and government, to explore how stronger, more structured collaboration with SMEs can drive growth, innovation, and the long-term security of the United Kingdom.

Strengthening Collaboration Across the Defence Supply Chain

The event opened with a welcome from Lord Hannett of Everton, Chairman of ICW, followed by a keynote address from Adam Clarke, Leidos UK CEO. Adam highlighted the critical role SMEs play within the defence supply chain, emphasising that effective collaborative engagement is essential to unlocking specialist capabilities, strengthening operational resilience, and supporting sustainable growth across the sector.

Government Commitment to SME Engagement in Defence

The discussion was further enriched by insights from Lord Vernon Coaker, Minister of State for Defence, who spoke about the vital contribution of the SME community to the UK's defence capability. He outlined the steps the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is taking to make collaboration more accessible for SMEs, including the introduction of a single point of contact initiative, and recognised the important role ICW plays in enabling collaborative working between industry and government.

Enabling Effective Collaboration Through Best Practice

The session concluded with a Q&A led by Frank Lee, CEO of ICW, and Jaynie Davies, Director - Leidos Supply. The discussion explored how organisations such as Leidos are actively supporting effective collaboration with SME partners and showcased the breadth of support ICW provides to help SMEs and larger organisations build stronger, more productive collaborative relationships. This included insights into ICW's defence-focused forums, designed to support knowledge sharing and best practice across the sector.

ICW Highways Forum at York Central - Collaboration in Action

It was great for the Institute for Collaborative Working Highways Forum (ICW) hosted this week by Sisk at York Central - one of the UK's most ambitious brownfield regeneration schemes.

The £2billion+ York Central project will transform a 45-hectare site behind York Railway Station into a new mixed-use district, delivering up to 2,500 homes (including 20% affordable). Around 1 million sq ft of office, retail and hospitality space. A new urban park and high-quality public areas. Major transport enhancements, including a new western station entrance.

Sisk is leading the £150million infrastructure package, providing the essential backbone for this city-shaping programme. Their works include a 2km development spine road with new junctions, bus routes, cycleways and footpaths, plus major structures such as an iconic road-over-rail bridge and a new footbridge across the East Coast Main Line. The programme also covers extensive earthworks, utility diversions, sustainable drainage systems, landscaping, and a rail spur serving the National Railway Museum.

With a wide network of stakeholders - spanning government, developers, transport bodies and local partners - York Central exemplifies the complexity and opportunity that collaboration brings to large-scale infrastructure delivery.

The ICW Highways Forum were fascinated to see the progress and discuss how collaborative behaviours can enable success - while also exploring where challenges remain on multi-party, high-value programmes. The meeting was also a chance to agree Forum priorities for 2026, focusing on driving better outcomes through collaborative practice across the highways and infrastructure sector.

A huge thank-you to Sisk for hosting and showcasing this landmark project - a powerful example of what can be achieved when collaboration, capability and commitment come together.

Frank Lee at GLA's 'Leading for London' Collaboration Event

Our CEO, Frank Lee FICW, was recently at City Hall for the 'Leading for London' Collaboration event, bringing together senior leaders from across the Greater London Authority Group to explore how we can deliver even greater value for London through more effective collaborative working.

We heard powerful insights from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, his Chief of Staff, David Bellamy, and other inspiring speakers, who reinforced the importance of partnership, trust, and collective ambition in tackling the challenges and opportunities ahead.

At the Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW), we are proud to support this vital mission. We know that collaboration doesn't happen by chance - it requires the right systems, processes, competencies, and culture to give it structure and enable benefits to be realised consistently and sustainably.

Lord Hannett and Frank Lee on VIP visit to Sellafield

Our Chairman, Lord John Hannett, and CEO, Frank Lee, visited Sellafield in West Cumbria - home of our Ambassador Member Sellafield Ltd - a site whose mission resonates powerfully with our shared belief in structured collaboration for long-term value.

The visit provided an opportunity to see how Sellafield Ltd manages the challenges, and innovation required to maintain the safe and effective operation of one of the nation's key nuclear sites - work that will ultimately deliver a clean and safe environment for future generations.

From retrieving nuclear waste held in legacy ponds and silos, to decommissioning redundant facilities, constructing new state-of-the-art infrastructure, and safely managing and storing spent fuel and special nuclear materials, the scale of the mission is immense - a monumental, decades-long undertaking.

What stood out on our visit was how this national responsibility cannot be achieved by one organisation alone: it is delivered through partnership. Teams of scientists, engineers, supply chain partners, and regulators work together, each playing a vital role.

Sellafield demonstrates the true essence of structured collaboration - not just coordination, but a shared vision, shared values, and shared accountability across multiple stakeholders.

We would like to thank Stephen Scott, Aleksandra Radecka-Taylor, Stephanie Atkinson, Euan Hutton, Paul Robson and Simon Wilcock for their hospitality and for such an interesting visit.

Elizabeth Stanton Jones

It is with sadness that we have to report the recent death of our friend and ex-colleague Elizabeth Stanton Jones.

Elizabeth joined PSL in 1990 when it was set up by Lord Keith Joseph, who had been the Chairman of the Board of Trade. Elizabeth was recruited from CBI by Kenneth Cherrett, the then Director General.

Ken remembers Elizabeth as an inspiration. She joined PSL as a PA/Administrator and there was much to be done to get the fledgling initiative organised and up and running. Elizabeth took to the task immediately and, as a result, PSL benefitted enormously. She struck up a rapport with existing and new members alike and for many became the first point of contact.

She organised many workshops and conferences. Amongst them what was to become the highlight of the ICW calender - the annual Collaborative Reception at the House of Lords. It was to become the template for such events in the future and is still run to that template today.

Elizabeth was intelligent, hard-working and loyal, and although feisty at times, her heart was always in the right place. Ken said that for him personally it was a privilege to have known her.

Les Pyle, Ken's successor as CEO, also shared the following words:

"When I took over as CEO in 2001, PSL was changing from a government-funded entity to a self-financing, not-for-profit organisation, meaning a totally new approach for the business. Elizabeth embraced this change with enthusiasm and her customary hard work. Elizabeth took on a wide range of varied tasks, including membership liaison, organising networking events and project support for a growing range of collaboration projects."

She is seen here with members at an event organised by Elizabeth in the newly opened London Eye.

Les remembers one of the biggest single projects that PSL/ICW has delivered to date: orchestrating an 8-day visit of 15 senior Thai civil servants to the UK, which Elizabeth personally managed.

This knowledge-sharing exchange involved meetings with UK businesses and government departments. Our responsibility began on their arrival at Heathrow and covered the total delivery of the whole business/social programme and full accommodation. It ended when they were safely on the plane back to Thailand - we didn't lose anyone (only temporarily!).

Apart from her contribution to the business, Elizabeth was a fascinating character with a wealth of life experiences to share, which we often used to chat about.

David Hawkins, who worked with Elizabeth for 20 years, was so sad to hear of Elizabeth's passing and paid this tribute:

"When I first joined PSL back in the 90's it was clear that Elizabeth was the backbone of the organisation. She made me feel welcome but was at the same time a forceful matriarch. We would all be organised, and at times it felt like being back at school - matron, or tutor, I was never sure... perhaps both - but you could not but appreciate her commitment.

"In those days she organised everything with regimental efficiency and kept us all in line, including at times our members, but was always there to help and encourage in whatever we did."

My personal reflection on my time working with Elizabeth is of gratitude for her meticulous and thorough instruction. I learnt so much from her, and that grounding gave me the base to build what I do for ICW even now.

Elizabeth was one of those people whose influence made a difference to other people's lives for the better.

Elizabeth's funeral service will take place at 11am on 10 December at St Pancras Church, Euston Road NW1 2BA. Nick - Elizabeth's son - has extended an invitation for all those who would like to attend. You are very welcome to join us for a celebration of Elizabeth's life. Following the service, you are warmly invited to join the family in the Exchange Room at the St Pancras London Hotel, Euston Road NW1 2AR, for refreshments and an opportunity to share your memories of Elizabeth.

ICW Welcomes 13 New Members

ICW is pleased to welcome the 13 delegates of the recent ICW ISO 44001 Leaders Course held at Warwick University into the Institute as members.

Adjudicator Dr Paul Connor commented that this group had recorded the highest collective marks with three-quarters of them being above the pass mark in the Distinction and Merit grades.

All of them have the right to use the post nominals MICW after their Name.

Collaborative Leaders in Highways: Shaping a Better Future for All

We were delighted to host a Collaborative Leaders in Highways Lunch at the House of Lords on 6th November. Welcomed by Lord John Hannett of Everton, ICW's Chairman, along with a thought-provoking keynote address from Elliot Shaw, Chief Customer and Strategy Officer at National Highways, it was an opportunity to bring together senior leaders in the sector. To explore how collaboration is shaping the future of highways and strengthening collaborative networks to enable successful delivery.

Collaboration at the Heart of Progress

In his welcome speech, Lord John Hannett highlighted that the highways community shares a well-defined shared purpose, through improving connectivity, safety, customer experience, and sustainability. With the government's commitment of £725 billion in long-term infrastructure investment, collaboration between public organisations and the supply chain is more essential than ever.

"Every success story in this industry is built on teams pulling in the same direction and sharing accountability", he emphasised.

Leading Collaboration

Elliott Shaw's keynote speech set out how the Government's Ten-Year Infrastructure Strategy outlines a long-term plan to boost economic growth, remove barriers, and ensure resilience - goals that can only be achieved through strong collaboration, leveraging diverse skills to enhance innovation, efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.

He explained that for National Highways, 80–90% of delivery is carried out by the supply chain, contributing to outstanding major results in RIS2 that included; 30 enhancement programmes, 8,500 km of renewed pavement, a 39% reduction in serious injuries, and over 150 new emergency areas. He outlined that as we move into RIS3, tools like the new Collaboration Diagnostic, developed jointly with the Institution for Collaborative Working by the Highways Forum and piloted across National Highways, will help strengthen behaviours, performance, and value across the entire infrastructure sector.

We're also grateful to Amy Williams, and Martyn Gannicott from National Highways for joining us and demonstrating, through their presence and continued support, that collaboration is a strategic priority for the sector.

Strengthening Collaborative Culture

Frank Lee, ICW's CEO, also reinforced the importance of collaboration in highways delivery:

"In highways, collaboration isn't just a nice idea - it's what keeps the country moving."

He noted that structured collaboration across designers, contractors, clients, and communities has already led to safer projects, greater public value, and a more resilient supply chain. He also encouraged leaders to expand collaboration across sectors to build social value, support future skills, and inspire the next generation.

The ICW Highways Forum: Setting New Standards

The event recognised the significant work of the ICW Highways Forum, jointly represented by National Highways and senior leaders from Associated Asphalt, Skanska, AE Yates, Amey, Jacobs, Sisk, Mott MacDonald, Balfour Beatty, Murphy, Graham, Breedon, Highway Care and many other companies.

The ICW Highways Forum has benefited enormously from the leadership of Dr. Ghaith Al-Werikat and Matt Morphet, whose energy, commitment, and vision have guided the group's work with purpose and professionalism.

Together, the Forum has developed a new behavioural collaboration tool to help teams measure and strengthen collaborative performance - enhancing psychological safety, inclusion, and shared accountability. ICW will now host the tool, with pilots beginning across the sector before a wider rollout, including to local highways authorities in 2026.

Recognising Leadership in Collaboration

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Collaborative Champion Award to Matt Morphet, whose leadership and advocacy have been instrumental in advancing collaborative culture across the highways sector.

ICW was delighted to host a Collaborative Leaders in Defence Lunch at the House of Lords yesterday, supported by MODUS (a joint venture led by Vercity, alongside partners Amey and Skanska). It brought together senior leaders from across defence, government, and industry to explore how collaboration is shaping the future of our defence capability and delivery.

The event opened with a warm welcome from ICW Chairman, Lord John Hannett, and a keynote address from Lord Vernon Coaker, Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence, who highlighted the vital role collaboration plays in strengthening our national defence and resilience.

Jon Brazier, Operations Director at Modus Services Ltd, provided inspirational insights into the MODUS Journey that has led them to become a leading-edge collaborative organisation, delivering real, consistent value in partnership with their client, the MOD.

In his remarks, Frank Lee, ICW's Chief Executive, recognised the commitment of ICW members who actively demonstrate collaboration through their actions - whether by contributing to our thought leadership groups, engaging in Active+ initiatives, or sharing expertise to advance collaborative best practice across sectors.

Advancing Collaboration in the Nuclear Sector

Our Chairman, Lord John Hannett OBE, had the pleasure of hosting a lunch in the House of Lords to recognise the re-constitution of the ICW Nuclear Forum, and to thank Andrew Van Schaick and Aleksandra Radecka-Taylor BA (Hons) MCIPS for their commitment and leadership in taking the forum into its next phase of development.

It was also an opportunity to discuss Sellafield Ltd's role as an ICW Ambassador organisation, highlighting how collaboration continues to underpin their relationships with the supply chain and the delivery of future projects of national importance.

As one of the UK's most significant organisations, Sellafield Ltd's collaborative approach exemplifies how structured collaboration drives progress, innovation, and shared value across complex programmes.

The lunch also provided an opportunity to acknowledge Stephen Scott on receiving his ICW Fellowship in May, which recognised his outstanding contribution to advancing collaborative working.

Judging for 2025 ICW Awards Now Completed

The ICW judging panel of Lord John Hannett OBE, ICW's Chairman, professor Mehmet Chakkol from Warwick University, and Simon Healey BSI's Operations & System Certification Director for UK&I, Sat for 2 days on October 1st and 2nd interviewing the 22 shortlisted submissions from this year's ICW Awards entries.

The submissions ranged from groundbreaking collaborative projects and leading initiatives, to outstanding workplace collaboration.

The Judges commented that the range and quality this year has been exceptional, and the wear impressed by all of them which made this years job harder then past years.

ICW congratulates all the finalists, and looks forward to announcing the winners of the 2025 ICW Collaboration Awards at the reception on 27th November at the House of Lords.

In a newly published article on Project Management Global, Frank Lee, ICW's CEO, and Tara Sinclair, Communications Manager at TRU West Alliance, highlight how structured collaboration - underpinned by ISO 44001 - was key to the success of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU).

Institute for Collaborative Working and Leeds University Business School sign strategic partnership

Leeds University Business School and the Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW) are pleased to announce a new strategic partnership, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations.

The partnership was formally announced at the ICW's Annual Reception at the House of Lords on 14 May 2025 by ICW Chairman Lord Hannett - an event that brought together influential voices across industry and government to celebrate collaboration and shared progress.

This new agreement establishes a long-term framework for academic collaboration, research initiatives, and executive education development, with a shared focus on enhancing standards in collaborative working and contributing to national policy development in areas such as public procurement and supply chain management.

Through the partnership, Leeds University Business School will contribute to and help evolve the ICW's executive education portfolio, supporting the delivery and development of courses with a focus on both UK and international participants. The collaboration will also support the creation of co-authored content such as white papers and policy briefs, offer new opportunities for cross-disciplinary research, and strengthen engagement between ICW's member network and academic experts.

Professor David Loseby, Professor of Research Impact at Leeds University Business School and a recognised expert in behavioural science and procurement, attended the House of Lords Reception alongside Professor Chee Wong, Professor of Supply Chain Management.

The Power of Collaboration for a Greener Planet - NATS' Sustainability Forum

As the impact of climate change continues to make headlines worldwide, it is clear that the most effective solutions will come from collective action, not isolated efforts. This is the philosophy driving NATS, a leader in the aviation sector, as they work to achieve their ambitious Target Zero promise. With a focus on reducing carbon emissions, NATS recognises the pivotal role its suppliers play in helping meet sustainability goals—and in April 2023, the company took a significant step forward by launching the NATS Supplier Sustainability Forum.

The Forum's purpose is simple yet powerful: to foster collaboration, share best practices, and inspire collective action to address sustainability challenges within NATS' supply chain. From the very first meeting with 20 companies, NATS laid out a vision of creating a community where learning and innovation thrive. Today, the forum has grown to 40 diverse companies, spanning well-known global brands to small and medium-sized enterprises, all united by a common goal of reducing their environmental impact.

What sets this forum apart is its truly collaborative approach. Rather than being a top-down, NATS-led event, the Forum encourages equal participation and leadership among all members. In 2024, the forum was hosted virtually by two members, showcasing fresh perspectives and reinforcing the idea that collaboration should come from all corners of the community. By the end of 2024, 17 different subjects had been discussed, from carbon budgets to AI & sustainability, offering members valuable insights and a deeper understanding of global sustainability initiatives such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and COP 27.

A key aspect of the Forum's success has been its focus on inclusivity. NATS' Sustainability Team provides one-on-one master classes to help less mature companies develop their sustainability strategies. This hands-on support has already led to tangible results, such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) committing to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Moreover, transparency has improved across the supply chain, with better visibility of suppliers' emissions, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals are now integrated into contracts.

As the Forum continues to grow, so too does the sense of community. Attendees have begun to form their own forums and engage in offline discussions, further fostering collaboration and shared learning. The feedback from members has been overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the Forum's ability to bring new information, diverse perspectives, and actionable insights to the table. While sustainability remains at the heart of the Forum's agenda, there are plans to expand discussions to cover other crucial ESG topics in the future.

The success of the NATS Supplier Sustainability Forum was recognised in 2024 when it won the Sustainability category at the Institute for Collaborative Working annual Awards, a testament to its collaborative nature and the positive impact it is having on the broader sustainability ecosystem.

As Claire Cole and Jake Goble, convenors of the NATS Supplier Sustainability Forum, reflect on the Forum's achievements, they are filled with optimism about the future: "We have truly built a community of like-minded organisations committed to sustainability. Together, we are making meaningful strides toward a net-zero future."

The Developing Business-Aware Academics (DBAA) project is delighted to announce a new partnership with the Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW).

Collaboration in Healthcare - starting from the very beginning!

7th of April is World Health Day, and the focus this year is "Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures: focusing on maternal health". Now whilst that doesn't sound a promising starting place for an article on collaboration, it did start me thinking...

Pregnancy isn't just about doctor visits - it takes a whole team. Obstetricians, midwives, nurses, pharmacists, and community health workers all play a role in supporting moms before, during, and after birth. Pharmacists, for example, can do more than just fill prescriptions. They can provide prenatal vitamins, vaccines like flu and Whooping cough, and advice on medication safety to keep both mum and baby healthy. They can also screen for conditions like gestational diabetes and high blood pressure-helping at-risk moms get the care they need sooner.

Many women feel unsupported after birth, especially regarding mental health, breastfeeding, and recovery. Closer working between maternity teams, health visitors, community pharmacists, and mental health services to provide more holistic postnatal support, requires a collaborative mindset with the new mother at the centre. The phrase "No decision about me, without me" became a key principle in UK healthcare policy, particularly under the 2010 NHS White Paper, Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS. It emphasised patient-centred care, ensuring that individuals are involved in decisions about their treatment and care. In maternity services this means ensuring pregnant women are fully involved in decisions about their birth preferences (e.g., home birth vs. hospital birth, pain relief options), and what level of support is appropriate for them when they return home.

Healthcare doesn't stop at the clinic doors. Strong partnerships with local organisations, NGOs, and community groups can help address things like access to nutritious food, mental health resources, and safe housing. Peer support programs - where experienced moms mentor first-time mothers - can boost confidence and emotional well-being. Because sometimes, you just need to hear "You've got this": from someone who's been there. The number one source of information for the 1st time mum, is still her own mother.

The best healthcare happens when providers learn from each other. Cross-training sessions between doctors, nurses, and pharmacists can strengthen teamwork and improve maternal care and when healthcare professionals understand different cultural perspectives on pregnancy and childbirth, they can provide more personalised, respectful care. Sadly, we have seen too many examples of siloed thinking in maternity, leading to disastrous outcomes for both mother and baby.

Beyond medical care, policies make a huge difference in maternal health. When healthcare providers, policymakers, and public health advocates work together, they can push for: Better maternity leave policies: Increased access to contraception and more funding for maternal health programs. Public-private partnerships can also bring in much-needed resources to improve maternal healthcare services. When healthcare professionals, community leaders, and policymakers collaborate, moms get the care, support, and respect they need for a healthy pregnancy and a bright future. Because when we work together, everyone wins - especially the next generation.

It was great for the ICW to be part of the Interchange Round Table on 'Collaborative innovation for sustainable value' at Interchange 25 (Connected | Transport | Infrastructure) in Manchester today.

Hosted by Skanska UK (Simon Cresswell) and the Rail Supply Group (Paul Corcoran), we joined a group of influential and committed organisations to discuss how we might realise greater sustainable value through collaborative and sustainable innovation.

Great discussions with BSI Assurance this week!

As many of you know, ICW CEO Frank Lee always enjoys getting out of the office to visit our members and learn more about their work. This week, Adrian Miller, James Brener, and Frank had the pleasure of meeting with our Ambassador Member, BSI, where they were able to explore the fantastic work BSI is doing in sustainability, particularly the BSI Net Zero Pathway, as well as in digital trust—two crucial areas where collaboration is key to helping organisations address these challenges more effectively.

Their discussions also focused on enhancing collaboration in the UK, especially in supporting SMEs as a vital part of the government's growth agenda. Beyond the UK, they explored opportunities in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions, looking at how we can work together to support our mutual members and clients.

Strengthening Collaboration for a Better East Midlands

Frank Lee, alongside colleague Henry Pavey MBA, CTArcf, FICW, had the pleasure of meeting Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), for an exciting and insightful discussion on collaboration.

Together they explored how partnerships with EMCCA's supply chain—particularly in green energy, housing, and transport—can drive greater social value and deliver long-term economic benefits, especially for the region's most deprived communities.

A key theme was how greater collaboration across the devolved combined authorities nationwide could unlock even greater benefits for local communities.

It was also fantastic to meet Claire Spencer and Niamh Carey from Claire Ward's team and discuss how deeper collaboration between local authorities, businesses, educational institutions, and community organisations is critical to achieving EMCCA's ambitious goals.

Graham Thomson appointed ICW Middle-East Envoy

Nicky Painter, 1943-2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear friend and supporter, Nicky Painter, at Winchester Hospice a few days ago.

Nicky was a larger-than-life character who brought joy and humour wherever she went. The life and soul of every party, her sharp wit and readiness with a joke often belied the diligence and dedication she brought to her work. She was undoubtedly one of the Institute's greatest and longest-serving supporters, contributing her expertise, knowledge, and unwavering effort selflessly to five Chief Executives over the years.

Born in Northamptonshire in 1943, where her family had been evacuated during the war, Nicky earned a BA (Hons) in Science from the Open University. She married Tim Painter, with whom she shared a love of sailing. Although their marriage ended in divorce, they remained close friends.

Nicky had a distinguished career as a senior civil servant at the Ministry of Defence, where she was commended for her contributions during the Falklands War. She spent her final year at the MOD on secondment to the British Military Advisory Team in Zimbabwe, a posting she thoroughly enjoyed.

In her later career, she worked as a consultant, primarily with the Institute for Collaborative Working, where she most recently edited our Insight magazine, and prior to that The Partner Magazine. She was an enormous supporter of the Institute being recognised as a Fellow for her achievements.

Beyond her professional life, Nicky's talents and passions were many. She was an accomplished pianist, trumpeter, and saxophonist and loved dancing—especially to traditional jazz. She was an avid sailor, owning several boats and participating in various sailing clubs, and even took up skiff racing later in life, winning numerous events in both sculling and coxing. She also volunteered with Riding for the Disabled. Nicky had a keen sense of humour and a curious mind, as evidenced by her membership in quirky societies like the Pylon Appreciation Society.

Her evenings were often marked by her beloved 6:00pm Gin-and-French, and she had a reputation for not suffering fools gladly. Yet, beneath her sharp exterior, she was inherently kind and generous. While she had no children of her own, she was deeply loved by her many nephews, nieces, and godchildren, as well as by her countless friends.

Nicky will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Welcoming Professor Jane Lynch to the ICW Board

We are pleased to announce that Professor Jane Lynch, renowned expert in supply chain management and collaborative engagement, has joined the ICW Board.

As Professor of Procurement at Cardiff Business School and leader of the Centre for Value Procurement, Jane brings exceptional leadership from both academic and practitioner perspectives. A member of ICW since 2012, she initiated ICW Wales and contributed best practices through The Partner. More recently, Jane has been a key contributor to the Public Procurement SIG and co-author of the forthcoming Collaboration Playbook.

When asked about her aspirations for collaboration, Jane replied, "Innovation needs to be high on the government agenda for the UK, and collaboration is a critical enabler of driving that in practice. I only hope that the pioneering work undertaken by the growing ICW team exemplifies the value of early involvement of key stakeholders and understanding what we mean by mutual benefit. Partnering does not work when the values are imposed by one party; true collaborative working involves mutual benefit where risk and reward are shared, not used as negotiation tactics”.

Having watched the ICW develop since 2012, Jane hopes to bring fresh thinking and strategic direction to ensure the ICW grows its membership sustainably while delivering benefits for members worldwide.

The Institute of Collaborative Working (ICW) and the Association for Key Account Management (AKAM) have identified a huge amount of synergy in their missions, to show how working together collaboratively with business partners and customers yields better results, than rivalry or adversarial behaviour. So, they have launched a formal collaborative association together, which will demonstrate to members and the wider business world the structure and benefits of businesses and publicly funded organisations working together, rather than scoring off each other. As supply chains evolve into ever more complex business ecosystems, collaboration between suppliers, their key customers and important influencers is more necessary than ever. With AKAM’s focus on key accounts and ICW’s on collaborative working, the pairing expects to publish invaluable approaches for all sectors.

The ICW Highways Sector Lunch, held in the Atlee Room at the House of Lords, was a resounding success. ICW Chairman Lord David gave the attendees a warm and humorous welcome to the House or Lords. ICW's CEO Frank Lee was the next to speak, highlighting ICW's connection to the Highways sector and the support ICW can give to it.

Frank Lee then introduced David O'Neil, National Highways Supply Chain Director, who spoke of the opportunities and challenges within the sector and how collaboration is key to realising and addressing them.

The lunch was filled with lively discussions and networking and acted as a brilliant opening to further discussion and exchange of ideas in the sector.

Afterwards, Frank Lee said "It was a pleasure, alongside our Chairman, Lord David Evans, to welcome our members from the Highways sector to our 'inaugural Collaborative Leaders in Highways' lunch at the House of Lords this week. The event fostered active networking and engaging discussions, offering our members a valuable opportunity to contribute insights on key topics that will shape the future of the sector."

Collaborative Leaders in Rail Networking Lunch at the House of Lords

Yesterday, we had the great pleasure of hosting our first Collaborative Leaders in Rail lunch at the House of Lords. Our Chairman, Lord David Evans, welcomed leaders from Network Rail and other executive network members operating in the rail sector for this networking event.

Our CEO, Frank Lee, highlighted the importance of progressive and deeper collaboration as a key enabler for the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of the CP7 portfolio. He emphasised how ICW members are demonstrating their commitment to collaboration through their participation in ICW Thought Leadership activities.

We also had the honour of awarding our first Declaration of Leading Edge Achievement to the TRU West Alliance. This is a fabulous achievement that showcases the ability of our Ambassador members, BAM and Network Rail, along with other supply chain partners, to deliver real additional value through their structured collaborative systems.

We also awarded our prestigious Collaborative Pioneer Award to two ICW members who have made enormous contributions both to The Institute and to collaboration in the rail sector over a considerable period. Many congratulations to Stephen Blakey and Brian Walton.

ICW Congratulates the following new members:

Natalie Dillon, Larisa Tcherednitchenko, Michaella Hancock, Jonahan Goulder, Richard Da Gama, Rupert Jackson, Alison Hunt, Emma Hurrell, Dave Clouting and John Chivers, who all attended and passed the ICW ISO 44001 Leaders Course at Warwick University this week.

All the candidates have now been enrolled as members and are all keen to get back to work and apply what they have learnt this last week.

Larisa and Michaella travelled all the way from Canada to take part in the course and are looking forward to helping spread the message of Collaborative working in Canada.

Collaboration in the Nuclear Sector Forum - Inaugural Plenary

We are delighted to announce that the ICW Nuclear Forum held an inaugural plenary on Monday. The Forum is chaired by Eirini Etoimou, Head of Corporate Sustainability and Supply Chain Development, at Sellafield Ltd in Warrington, who kindly hosted the event.

The Nuclear Forum provides an arena for ICW Executive Network members in the nuclear sector to explore opportunities for collaboration, around a common purpose - for the benefit of the partners, their sector and its stakeholders, and the wider community.

Members at the plenary agreed that the Forum should focus upon ‘sustainability through collaboration’ in all its facets. They will now proceed to define and prioritise their objectives ahead of a follow-up meeting which it is expected will be used to develop action programmes.

The Forum was attended by senior representatives from Cavendish Nuclear, Edwin James Group, Gleeds, Morgan Sindall, Mott MacDonald, Sellafield Ltd, Tetra Tech and Yokogawa.

Frank Lee Visits Graham Group

Frank said, "I had the great pleasure of spending some time with our Ambassador member Graham Group this week, providing me with the opportunity to meet their senior leadership team at their head office in Hillsborough. I also got to see the Nelson Street student accommodation development in Belfast, where I met many of the team working on the site and gained an overview of how Graham Group are using a collaborative approach as main contractor for the Loft Lines, one of Europe's largest urban waterfront regeneration projects.

Facilitating networking and direct engagement for our members has long been one of the key aims and successes of the ICW. So, it was with great pleasure we were able to host a great afternoon to welcome a number of our new ICW members to our Executive Network (EN), with an excellent luncheon at the House of Lords yesterday.

A warm welcome by our Chairman, Lord David Evans of Watford, and insightful speeches from representatives from two of our valued Ambassador members: Victoria Brennan from BSI and Jonathan Gawthrop from EMCOR UK, were well received, along with some lively, topical and enjoyable conversations across the tables.

We'd like to express our thanks to all our new ICW executive network members and guests for joining us and making this a truly special occasion and allowing us to bring them into our network. We know that our strength as an Institute comes from the quality and capability of our members, so this was an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded organisations and we are looking forward to more such opportunities for engagement and networking in the future.

Saeed Maashi Alenezi and Sultan Aldhuwaihi seen here being presented with their Course certificates by Leigh Lawry on Thursday as they became the ICW's first Middle-Eastern MICWs when they passed the ICW Leaders course.

Both Saeed (2nd photo), who works for the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, and Sultan (3rd photo), who works for the Ministry of Energy, made the trip from Saudi to Warwick to do the course.

September ISO 44001 Leaders Course Sets New Record

ICW's September ISO 44001 Leaders Course, held at Warwick University last week, set a record for attendees. Leigh Lawry, our head of training, welcomed 15 delegates to Warwick University on September 25th.

The delegates were truly international with 2 delegates, Saeed and Sultan, coming from Saudi Arabia and Sarah traveling from Australia specially to do the course.

ICW is also pleased to announce that all 15 met the exacting standards set by Dr Paul Connor of Warwick University who invigilates the exam.

So ICW welcomes our 15 new MICWs and congratulates them accordingly.

ICW and Copello's joint event achieved a very good turnout at Copello's offices in Whiteley, Hampshire, yesterday.

Speakers Andrew MacAskill, CCO of Fraser Dove International, and Henry Pavey MBA, CTArcf, FICW, Growth Boroughs Programme & Partnership Manager led the debate on whether collaborative working can encourage people back into the office.

ICW's First Collaborative Forum 'Collaboration in the Nuclear Sector' Announced

We are pleased to announce our first collaborative forum 'Collaboration in the Nuclear Sector', which has been set up together with our Executive Network member Sellafield Limited.

The forum will be chaired by Eirini Etoimou, Msc, MBA LS, Head of Corporate Sustainability & Supply Chain Development at Sellafield and will be open to all ICW Executive Member organisations.

The aim of the forum is to identify the key areas where improved collaboration can deliver additional value regardless of the specific nuclear activity or area and to work collaboratively to realise that value. The insights gained will be integrated into our overarching Infrastructure Collaboration Forum to ensure that best collaborative practices are shared among our members, regardless of their sector.

ICW Welcomes 5 New MICWs

Sophie Howard, Paul McBride, Leo Arnold, and Bryan Halsey joined with Lorenz Hagenmeyer - who had travelled from Germany to sit the Leader's Course - in becoming the newest individual members of ICW where they all passed the ICW Leaders Course held at Warwick University last week.

All five (seen here with tutor Leigh Lawry and course examiner Dr Paul Connor) can now use the postnominal letters MICW after their name.

ICW welcomes National Highways to Executive Network

ICW welcomes National Highways as the latest addition to our Executive Network membership. National Highways Ltd has an outstanding collaborative pedigree, working with highways suppliers, fostering the right relationships, proactively engaging their suppliers and developing capability with their supply chains in a way that drives real value. Their experience, expertise and commitment to promoting collaborative working to generate better outcomes will be an invaluable resource to our members.

National Highways, along with our friends at LCRIC and other Executive Network members, will form the nucleus of a new, wider Collaboration forum in the highways sector. This new platform will look at how to best share learning and overcome challenges to improve collaboration in support of the UK highway network and a more connected country. The forum will link into an overall infrastructure forum where we plan to spread best collaborative practices across the whole infrastructure sector.

ICW recognises BSI's Pietro Foschi with Collaborative Leader of the Year 2023 award

ICW recognises Pietro Foschi, Group Executive Director for BSI Assurance Services Division, with the Collaborative Leader of the Year 2023 award.

In his address, ICW's CEO Frank Lee recognised that in the past the Collaborative Leader Award was presented at the end of the year so he wanted to break that tradition and start a new one where ICW recognised the winner at the May reception.

ICW has worked with Pietro over a number of years and he has always supported the ethos and work of the institute. He has been an example to all of us of true collaborative leadership, applying it in all aspects of his working practice.

It gave ICW enormous pleasure for ICW's Chairman Lord Evans to present to Pietro The Collaborative Leader of the Year 2023 Award.

Kier Group expands its ICW membership to cover the whole group of companies

The Kier Group, in Partnership with ICW, has rolled out its membership across the whole group of Kier Companies.

Kier Highways has been an ICW member since 2016 and holds an Ambassador role lead by Louise McMahon, the Strategy & Business Improvement Director.

Kier's group membership will provide all the group with access to unrivalled expertise in several areas, including collaborative working practices and sustainability.

At a Lunch to celebrate this milestone in the relationship between ICW and Kier, ICW Chairman Lord David Evans hosted Andrew Davies, Chief Executive, and Joe Incutti, the Group Managing Director, along with Louise McMahon and ICW's CEO Frank lee at the House of Lords.

Andrew Davies said: "The ICW aligns well with our values of being collaborative, trusted, and focused. Frank Lee's Social value-themed visit to Sellafield

ICW's CEO Frank Lee recently accepted an invitation by Executive Network member Sellafield's Chief Supply Chain Officer Susan Lussem to visit their site in Warrington, where here he was able to see first-hand what they are doing in the area of Social Value.

Sellafield are at the forefront of using a collaborative approach to generate social value into the community of which they are a part. The visit also gave Frank the opportunity to learn more about Sellafield's award winning (ICW Awards 2022) collaborative approach with their supply chain partners to innovate and address some of the most technical challenges faced by any sector.

Frank then had the opportunity to explore with the Sellafield team, and some of their supply chain partners, how we at The ICW can support them in delivering the added value they are determined to realise.

Spencer West joins Lord Evans and Frank Lee at the House of Lords

A meeting was hosted at The House of Lords by our Chairman Lord David Evans, for our CEO Frank Lee to meet with one of our members Spencer West. Spencer West are a quite unique firm of Lawyers who believe that collaboration with partners and clients is a key way to provide an enhanced legal experience for all involved.

One area that they discussed was the opportunity that contracts designed to encourage collaboration could bring to add value to business relations as opposed to the more traditional type of contract, This is a topic Spencer West and ICW agreed to continue to work on and shar with our members.

LCRIG joins Institute for Collaborative Working

The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) has joined the Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW).

LCRIG Chief Executive, Martin Duffy recently met with the new ICW Chief Executive, Frank Lee - at their offices in London. Martin was invited to talk about raising the profile of collaboration within the highways sector.

The ICW is recognised as thought leaders in collaborative working and were the driving force behind the development of ISO 44001, the first ever international business collaboration standard. As a totally self-financing, multi-tiered membership organisation the Institute provides practical guidance from extensive experience gained from working across relationships within the commercial, Government and academic arenas. The Institute was established in 1990 by the UK Government and the CBI to help organisations, large and small, in both public and private sectors, to build and develop effective business relationships – both internally and externally - based upon collaborative working good practice.

Frank Lee said: "I'm delighted that LCRIG have agreed to come together with the ICW to engage, share and find opportunities for joint initiatives that will benefit our members. Our organisations share common aims, particularly around innovation and collaboration, as well as supporting our members progress towards their net zero targets. As likeminded purpose driven organisations, we see great opportunities to work together in ways that can both support and influence key stakeholders, to attract investment and drive improvements that can help build better local community infrastructure and amenity, along with improving social outcomes and wellbeing, in conjunction with promoting safer and better environments for all."

Award winner Ben Pearson-Clarke visits ICW offices to receive MICW certificate

On a recent visit to the ICW Office Frank Lee took the opportunity to present Ben Pearson-Clarke with his ICW Membership certificate.

Ben who was one of the HS2 award winning team in the 2022 ICW Awards last December joined ICW as a member in January and he was the first individual member under Franks leadership of ICW as CEO.

Our Annual Associate Directors Seminar, held at Warwick University - one of our longest-standing academia partners - was a great success, covering many important and topical subjects. The seminar's main focus was building the 'Institute of Tomorrow', working Collaboratively with a select number of key stakeholders being the positive way to do this. Our new vision and mission were key elements in our discussions, as well as how structured collaboration addresses the challenges we face today.

Being a member-focused organisation, we also looked at how we add value to our members, both in terms of what we do now and what we can do going forwards. Professor Paul Connor joined in the discussion, detailing how he is helping us build our new communication and Marketing strategy.

ICW appoints Jill Clancy as Collaborative Events Leader

The ICW will be starting a series of events in 2023. These events will focus on sharing knowledge and experience on all things collaboration. They will be a mix of informal online ‘share and learn’ sessions, more formal webinar activities, and we will be reintroducing our in-person events later in the year. The in-person events will be on the road too, and we are looking to hold events not only in London but also in Leeds and Cardiff.

The events will be for our members, and their guests, to ensure a wider understanding of the benefits of collaboration, and how collaboration and collaborative working can make a real difference.

We are delighted to announce that Jill Clancy FICW, Associate Director of ICW, has taken up the role of Collaborative Events Leader. She will be organising these events and making sure they run smoothly - certainly a challenge but one that she is eager to take on having really benefited from ICW events in the past.

We aim to meet as many of our members’ requirements as possible, so the events will cover a variety of topics. Some events will be single topic, while others may focus on a particular sector or link topics to ensure a wider view. We will aim to share learning and experiences of the journey people have taken to successful collaboration, and on some very specific areas that members want to know more about. We will ensure that the events are in line with the ICW’s 4 key strategic aims: Social Value, Sustainability, EDI and Better Commercial Outcomes.

ICW CEO Frank Lee attends Leidos' 'Coronation Showcase'

On Thursday 23rd February I had the privilege of joining our Ambassador member Leidos at their 'Coronation Showcase' at the Honourable Artillery Company in London. The event celebrated the contribution of Small and Medium Enterprises to the Coronation of HM King Charles III.

It was inspiring to learn about the contribution of 'Team Leidos', as well as all the supply chain contractors, on how they pulled out all the stops to support the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II. It was also great to have the opportunity to discuss with Leidos' Ambassador representative Angela Crabtree, and colleague Robert McNeill, our visions for the future. In particular, how we believe ICW and structured collaboration can support organisations such as Leidos in achieving their goals and to see how closely our vision aligns with their thinking.

Warwick University Played host this week to the ICW 44001 Leaders course

Our tutor Leigh Lawry delivered the course to 5 delegates: James Sippl of Frequentis, who travelled from Vienna, Austria, Michelle Mortlock from Mott MacDonald based in Glasgow, Anna Norgett of Atos London, Jared Tovee of Volkerwessels in Hoddesdon, and Paul Farrow, a consultant from P3A based in Wigan.

The 4-day course consists of lectures and a written exam (which is also the entrance exam for the Institute), a presentation to the group of a case study, demonstrating where the implementation of the principles of ISO 44001 did or would have made a difference to the project.

Dr Paul Connor, a lecturer at Warwick University, is the adjudicator for the written exam, which is marked to the exacting standards of the University.

LCRIG's CEO Martin Duffy receives warm welcome at ICW's London offices

It was great to welcome Martin Duffy, Chief Executive of the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG), to ICW's offices in London today.

This was an excellent opportunity for our new CEO Frank Lee to get Martin's input into our new and ongoing initiatives. These will help ICW members demonstrate to key Service and Infrastructure providers how they are going beyond compliance to deliver innovative, additional value through effective structured collaboration that delivers effectively for communities and supports the achievement of sustainability goals.

Introducing ICW's new Chief Executive Officer, Frank Lee

Frank took up the role of Chief Executive Officer of ICW at the start of 2023 following 32 years at BSI. During that time he held a number of roles including regional Director for the Northern European region, EMEA Compliance & Risk Director, and UK&I product Certification Director. While at BSI Frank was key in developing the ISO 44001 Certification Scheme.

He has been a fellow of the institute since 2014 and was the Collaborative Leader of the Year in 2018.

Frank brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to ICW and is a recognised expert in the field of Integrated management systems and in integrating the 8-stage model for collaboration into the ISO standard HLS structure.

We are pleased to have Frank as part of the ICW family and look forward to his continued proven leadership in this new role.

ICW's CEO Frank Lee announces launch of new 'Strategic Marketing and Communications Team

ICW are delighted to report that Frank Lee, ICW's recently appointed CEO, has officially announced the launch of the ICW 'Strategic Marketing and Communications Team' (SMCT) - a new initiative combining the knowledge and experience of a team of experts, whose focus is on building the Institute's marketing and communications strategy moving forwards.

Frank confirmed his vision for the future of the ICW: a purpose-driven not-for-profit organisation with a mission to demonstrate the vital role structured collaborative working plays in delivering key outcomes, and with the objective of supporting our members and partners to:

achieve better economic outcomes
deliver social value benefits, including inclusivity
support the achievement of their sustainability objectives

The SMCT has commenced a programme of work and activities, including building a blueprint for an exciting series of events that we will be initiating in the near future to support our members, taking ICW into the next stage of its development.

This is the first of a series of announcements this year from the Institute, as we drive positive change to support our members.

David Hawkins re-appointed to chair of ISO Committee

ICW is pleased to announce that David Hawkins has been re-appointed to the chair of the ISO Committee TC286 for a further 3 years. The TC286 Committee overseas developments around the ISO 44001 standard.

In their letter of appointment, the ISO Central Secretariat said "The fact of your re-appointment speaks to your demonstrated skills and abilities as chair of your committee, and your renewed commitment is greatly appreciated", and they thanked him for contribution to the ISO culture and its spirit of continuous improvement.

Professor Jane Lynch oversees opening of Cardiff University's Centre of Public Value Procurement

ICW's lead in Wales Jane Lynch, Professor of Procurement for the Logistics and Operations Management (LOM) at Cardiff University, hosted the launch of the new research Centre of Public Value Procurement on October 19th 2022.

The assembled guests heard not only from Professor Jane Lynch but also keynote speeches from Stephen Blakey, Network Rail's Commercial Projects Director and a Fellow of ICW, and Fiona Wood FCIPS from CIPS - The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply.

Professor Lynch said: "This is an exciting year as we launch the NEW Centre of Public Value Procurement, it is an important milestone, aiming to bring greater focus on increased public value through procurement the research centre aims to grow and support the talent pool of procurement professionals in public, private and third sectors, aiming to bring greater focus on increased public value through procurement. By incorporating social value and well-being undertakings in public, private and third arrangements, greater societal benefits can be achieved through value-driven procurement and supply chain management activities."

The Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW) welcomes the London headquartered international law firm Spencer West LLP as the first law firm to become a member.

Commercial and Corporate Partner Clare Waller, who is leading the initiative for Spencer West, commented "Collaboration is a key part of the way we work at Spencer West. We are looking forward to working closely with the ICW and exploring how the principles of collaborative working can be applied in the legal sector, and our partners will benefit from support and training from the ICW. Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away

The worldwide ICW Community is saddened following the passing of our late Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our sadness at this time is shared by people across the globe, as we remember with affection and gratitude the lifetime of service given by our longest serving monarch.

We hold in our prayers and thoughts the members of the Queen's family at this difficult time.

May the Lord she served receive her in his love and may she rest in peace.

ICWNZ's General Practitioners Course

Attendees' knowledge of the benefits of working collaboratively and how to do it better increased substantially at the Institute for Collaborative Working New Zealand's (ICWNZ) - General Practitioners Course in Wellington on 14 and 15 July.

Delegates, both online and in-person, including clients, contractors and consultants have had to wait for more than a year since the previous course in March 2021 due to the pandemic, but they were not disappointed.

Director of ICWNZ and Lead on the course Chris Olsen was pleased with the progress made by the Delegates throughout the two-day course, despite the challenges of juggling both online and in-person attendees.

"We were really pleased by the attitudes of the Delegates who all learn a great deal about collaborative working, it was fantastic to see a range of clients, contractors and consultants coming and working together and sharing their experiences of collaborative working the range covered those who are new to Collaborative working to those years of experience with alliances and collaborative enterprises."

"We will look to hold the next ICWNZ General Practitioners Course in-person, if possible, in order to allow delegates to experience the full benefits of the course."

Network Rail Gains Second Fellow

With the awarding of an ICW Fellowship to Stephen Blakey, Network Rail is the first UK organisation to have 2 fellows,

Stephen Joins Kevin Tozer, Networks Rail Director of Collaboration, who was made a Fellow in May 2021.

Kevin was awarded his fellowship in recognition of his continued work within Network rail and their supply chain in collaborative working Kevin has been a member of ICE since 2014 and is a member of ICW's advisory council.

Stephen Blakey, Commercial Projects Director, who has been a member of ICW since 2017, has done a great deal in supporting Network Rail's collaborative capability. As well as supporting the ICW he is Lead on the Special Interest Group on Collaborative Leadership. He also represents Network Rail on ICW Ambassadors forum.

Lord Evans the ICW Chairman presented Network Rail with one of the BSI/ICW Collaborative Pathfinder Awards 2022 at the Celebration of Achievements and Pioneers in Collaboration reception he hosted on the House of Lords Terrace on Thursday 21st July 2022.

This award recognises the sustained industry leadership and advocacy for collaborative working that's been a corner stone of Network Rail's engagement with its Capital Works supply chain from 2010 onwards. Network Rail was the first UK infrastructure client to secure BS11000 in 2011 and one of the first 6 organisations globally to secure the international standard ISO44001 in 2017. Their leadership of the sector in professionalising collaborative working and delivering major programmes through Alliances and progressive forms of contract was key to creating the collaborative working capability that many tier one suppliers in rail have today.

Lord Evans was especially pleased to be able to present the award to Stephen Blakey, Commercial Projects Director on behalf of Network Rail. Over the years, Stephen has done so much in support of Network Rail's collaborative capability as well as supporting the ICW.

In recognition of that support Lord Evans was also pleased to award Stephen Fellowship of the ICW.

Many tier-one suppliers to rail, including Babcock, Bam, Balfour Beatty, Amey, Skanska, Morgan Sindall and VolkerWessells are now Corporate Members and Ambassadors for ICW. Alongside Network Rail, they ensure that the rail sector has a strong and well-earned reputation for successful collaborative working.

Rail companies and projects regularly feature in the ICW annual awards, showcasing successful programmes that have been delivered collaboratively. And it is notable that over the last 7 years the ICW annual award for Individual Collaborative Leadership has been awarded 3 times to leaders from the rail sector, with the most recent Collaborative Leader Award going to Toufic Machnouk, Network Rail's Delivery Director on the East Coast Digital Programme.

It's clear that the rail sector is leading the way in collaborative working and ICW looks forward to continued liaison with Network Rail and its Head of Collaborative Working, Kevin Tozer and seeing further examples of rail's success at future awards.

BSI and ICW to Celebrate the Achievements and Pioneers in Collaboration

Lord Evans, ICW's Chairman, will host a gathering organised by BSI and ICW to Celebrate the Achievements and Pioneers in Collaboration at the House of Lords on Thursday 21st July 2022.

This will give the opportunity to recognise the ICW Award winners of 2021 in person as Covid meant the event had to be held online.

Also, in recognition in this special Platinum Jubilee Year, ICW and BSI will be awarding The Platinum Awards to recognise outstanding achievements in furthering collaboration over a period of time.

ESS/DIO Press Release on Winning ICW Award

ESS Defence, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) have won the Institute for Collaborative Working Service Sector Award.

The award recognises teams that excel in improving service delivery through a collaborative approach. It marks the successful relationship between ESS and DIO in the delivery of three large Defence Soft FM contracts in the East, South West and Wales & West Midlands. The contracts, awarded under the MOD's Hestia programme, cover 240 military establishments and 100+ services, ranging from catering, retail and leisure through to waste, cleaning and laundry. The objective for both organisations is to enhance the lived experience for service personnel in the sites where they live and work.

The Hestia programme brings together multiple ESS, DIO and military stakeholders. A structured approach to collaboration at the highest level has enabled ESS and DIO to develop and instil shared objectives, ways of working and behaviours that filter through the contracts.

Both organisations have achieved ISO 44001 certification for the relationship which is managed by a joint ESS and DIO partnering board. The systems and processes required by the standard facilitate a consistent approach which is key to successful collaboration.

Benefits delivered through the relationship include:

Ensuring colleague and customer safety through the joint development of safe operating procedures during COVID-19
Enhancing the lived experience through investment in food service and retail facilities, including the first fully self-service convenience store on the UK Defence estate
Embracing digitalisation to improve access to services through implementation of the ESS App designed specifically for Defence and Government customers
Focusing on sustainability across all service streams, including increasing plant-forward meal options, introducing chemical free cleaning, eliminating the top ten single use plastic products, delivering zero waste to landfill from contract start and consistently improving recycling rates
Supporting personal wellbeing through a detailed wellness programme designed for ESS, DIO and military colleagues.

ICW Welcomes 5 New Fellows

ICW confirmed Fellowships on five of its members at the ICW 2021 Awards Event on the 16th of December.

The event was due to be held at the House of Lords but due to the Covid restrictions being extended by the Palace of Westminster it was transferred online.

Jo Potter, the chair of the Professional Development SIG who chaired the interview panel of Fellows early in the Month announced the following recipients.

Nicky Painter

Nicky is one of the longest serving members of ICW since the days of Partnership Sourcing. Over those years she has been an active associate undertaking a variety of projects in support of the Institutes goals including the early days of our individual membership production of the Partner and always there when we needed help.

Andrew Hopper

Andrew has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Institute for a number of years working through Skanska and the wider industry to promote collaborative working. His energy has been invaluable to the development of some of our Special Interest Groups.

Leigh Lawry

As one of ICW's Associate Directors Leigh has been a great champion of collaborative working and principal Tutor for both BSI courses delivered by ICW and the ICW Leaders course where he has been acknowledged by all for his dedication and support.

Lois Love

A tireless supporter of ICW and champion for our younger members Lois though both the advisory Council and her work alongside Jo Potter in the development of our Professional development special interest group in the creation of our recently launched mentoring scheme.

UK Life Sciences Opportunities in a Changed World

What an 18 months it has been! The UK's life sciences sector has come into its own leading society out of the pandemic, with tremendous opportunities through innovation and collaboration which can be applied for a better future for all.

The UK has taken the lead with the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine, the MHRA being the first regulator to approve a COVID-19 vaccine, vaccinating the first patient, global-leading genomic sequencing, and use of healthcare data that has established treatments saving over a million lives around the world. It is now about bottling the advances that have been made and applying them to the other great health challenges, for the good of all.

Turning Policies Into Action

Speaking at this year's 12th Pharmaceutical Industry Network Group (PING) Conference organised by VWV law firm's specialist Pharmaceuticals and Life Sciences sector, and held virtually in conjunction with IQVIA and supported by Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Pfizer UK's Country Manager and ABPI President, Ben Osborn, shared his inspirational journey and vision around innovation and collaboration over the last two years. Ben emphasised the importance of having a shared mission and direction, healthcare equitable access, understanding the concept of risk and the need to ensure that science is valued at all levels. In reality, innovation is "all about bringing together science, data and technology" whilst keeping the patient at the heart of it all. Ben stated that "there has never been a more exciting time for life sciences and the opportunity to bring breakthroughs to change patients' lives. The Government's 'Life Sciences Vision' gives a bold ambition, so we must all now partner and translate words into meaningful action."

The UK Government's 'Life Sciences Vision' published this year provides a 10 year blueprint to act as the key driver for sector growth in the 21st century and keep the UK ahead of the field. The Office for Life Sciences Head of Strategy, Alex Mclaughlin, explained that "the Life Sciences Vision sets out how through working in partnership, Government, NHS, the Sector and academia can create real value for industry and better treatments and technologies for patients. It's an exciting time for life sciences, and the UK is uniquely placed to innovate and lead the way. The Government is determined to work with partners from right across the sector to realise the ambitions of the Vision."

Building on the NHS Long Term Plan with a focus on population health and working with Integrated Care Systems, the NHS can be a driver for innovation. The Innovative Medicines Fund is another committed Government manifesto to fast-track promising new drugs. Meanwhile, repurposing medicines, as was seen with the discovery within the NHS of the use of the steroid dexamethasone to treat COVID-19 patients during the pandemic, shows what opportunities there are. These are areas that Claire Foreman, Director of Medicines Policy and Strategy at NHS England and Improvement, will be focusing on, to explore what can be done through innovation and also through working with what we already have, thus improving the life sciences sector's delivery of treatments for patients.

Not only is the Government focusing on UK life sciences plans and policies, it is also prioritising rolling over existing international agreements as well as entering into new ones. Deals with Indo-Pacific life sciences relations including Singapore, Vietnam, Canada and Mexico are being prioritised, while new post-Brexit agreements with Australia and New Zealand are now in place. Andrew Howard, Deputy Director for Trade, Regulation and Analysis at The Office for Life Sciences, talked about the UK's priorities in trade deals, as well as the challenges and opportunities for Britain. He mentioned how "the last few years have been a time of great change, but there are many opportunities for Global Britain in life sciences. The UK has a pioneering regulator, leading academia, a single healthcare system and a strong biopharma sector, as well as a coherent vision for the sector that supports exciting new specialist areas. Having built on existing global relationships, we're now fully focused on nurturing new ones."

Cultivating Scientific Collaboration

Collaborations have been important for some time, but the vaccination roll-out has shown how collaborations have come of age. There are more happening, with bigger plans and larger projects. Collaboration is key to accelerating the innovations, and allowing people to benefit from each others' strengths by working together. Relationships are key to a successful collaboration. All stakeholders involved must consider the importance of generosity, have a clear structure and code of practice, and shared vision/values, with an ability to trust and be transparent in sharing knowledge and data.

CEO of the Institute for Collaborative Working, Claire Ward, stated that "the value of structured collaborative working is having a plan that can support organisations to build sustainable relationships. During COVID-19, the pharmaceutical sector has shown the value of working together; the task now is to embed attitudes and behaviours that can sustain long term collaborative relationships across all parts of the industry."

From an academia perspective, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Innovation at University of Oxford, Chas Bountra OBE, expressed that "we're facing many global healthcare challenges. No one institution has all the necessary expertise or infrastructure or resources. The only way we are going to tackle these is through collaboration - collaboration amongst universities, with industry, with governments, with regulators, with policy makers and with other countries."

GlaxoSmithKline's Director Academic Liaison, Malcolm Skingle CBE, also mentioned that "I've seen for years that collaborations are the way to go for pharma - whether with others in pharma or with academia. The pandemic has shown the importance of collaborations. The Vaccine Taskforce achieved their incredible feats through collaborating. Working together to get the best skills together has never been more important."

VWV's Corporate Partner, Richard Phillips, stated "What a great panel session at the PING 2021 Conference on collaboration with inciteful views on how far it has come, with mindset and attitude instrumental in making collaborative working a success. Getting the contract structure right are tremendously important, though, to ensure parties are clear on their roles and objectives and to plan for the future at the outset. There were some great examples of how effective collaboration can be."

The Role of Health Data in Drug Discovery

There has been increased importance placed on genomic and real-world health data in the life sciences sector and working creatively together to manage the data in the most effective and efficient way. The diversity of the data is a key challenge, whilst at the same time decreasing health inequalities. The sector needs to get smarter by looking to work with and check cohorts in other countries globally. It is important to gain and maintain the trust and transparency with all involved and bring the public along to help with health data outcomes. UK Biobank has achieved tremendous things by being a global leader in genomic sequencing, and Our Future Health is a good example of an exciting UK health research programme, to bring people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases.

Professor Joanne Hackett, Head of Genomic and Precision Medicine at IQVIA, highlighted that "the future for data is a game changer - both genomic and healthcare data. However, the key will be making sure the data is well curated in order to achieve the potential."

Health Data Research UK's CEO, Caroline Cake, explained how "health data research has enabled some of the most important discoveries about COVID-19 and been a key component of the UK's understanding of and response to the pandemic. There is now a fantastic opportunity to build on this momentum and collaboration in the sector to accelerate our work, making large scale datasets safely available for research, to enable discoveries across the spectrum of health conditions, from cancer to rare diseases."

Founder & CEO of Genomics PLC, Sir Peter Donnelly, commented how "it's 21 years this year since the announcement of the completion of the draft human genome. I'm now really excited that the field has matured so it can have a major impact on drug discovery and healthcare. It's great to see the UK at the forefront of these opportunities."

Regulatory

The COVID-19 vaccine regulators led by the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), have also worked in innovative ways to approve medicines much quicker than normal, while not compromising on assessing safety and efficacy. The MHRA is continuing to build on adopting innovation and be seen as a world leading regulator. Dr Kirsty Wydenbach, Expert Medical Assessor at the MHRA, stressed that "the MHRA ambition is about putting patients first, becoming a truly world-leading, enabling regulator and protecting public health through excellence in regulation and science. Support for innovation is a key part of that ambition. We want to hear from researchers and developers early so we can help them stay on track, and so we can learn and become an even more industry-friendly regulator."

Summing up the PING 2021

IQVIA's Vice President, Strategic Planning Northern Europe, Angela McFarlane, stated:

"What a conference. It's left us in no doubt that our next mission as a life science community is to collaborate on the seven 'Healthcare Missions' in the Government Life Sciences Vision, combining the 'best of British' - our unique health data, our world-leading genomics, transformative real world research and innovation in research. If we embrace a mission-led culture in medicines discovery and access, with collaboration being the new norm the UK could become the life sciences."

VWV's PING Chair and Partner and Head of Pharmaceuticals and Life Sciences sector, Paul Gershlick, concluded:

"The UK has led the way in so many areas through the pandemic through innovation and collaboration. With a forward-looking life sciences Vision, which gives a clear blueprint for continuing to do that and take a lead in addressing the other great health challenges, including through the strengths of the UK's world class academia, life sciences industry, regulator, and financial centre, Global Britain can continue to be at the hub of leading the way, including in the exciting opportunities through use of health and genomic data."

Large organisations can reap a multitude of benefits when collaborating with smaller businesses, as long as the policies and processes don't weigh the relationship down. A new technical report (TR) has just been published to help bring the best out of the arrangement for all involved.

ISO/TR 44004, Collaborative business relationship management - Guidelines for large organizations seeking collaboration with micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), provides recommendations for large organisations to help them take an agile and balanced approach when working with MSMEs.

Adrian Miller, Project Leader of the group of experts that developed the guidelines, said MSMEs generally bring more flexibility and agility to a business relationship, making them highly attractive to work with. Yet they are also likely to have fewer resources.

"Larger organisations tend to have a greater level of management processes, but these could be overwhelming for an MSME if imposed on them, as it tends to drive a way of working that is too onerous and restrictive," he said.

"ISO/TR 44004 demonstrates how they can adjust their approach to working with smaller businesses, thus enabling both parties to benefit fully from the relationship and produce positive results."

ISO/TR 44004 was developed by ISO technical committee ISO/TC 286, Collaborative business relationship management, whose secretariat is held by BSI, ISO's member for the UK. It can be purchased from your national ISO member or the ISO Store.

11th October 2021 International Standards Organisation Publishes ISO 44004

ICW is pleased to announce the publication of ISO 44004 Collaborative Business Relationship Management - guidelines for large organizations seeking collaboration with MSMEs. This guidance standard has been championed by ICW as a valuable addition to the ISO 44000 family and an important partner to ISO 44003 the Guide for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) which is currently the being promoted by ICW executive network companies under the pilot scheme announced earlier this year. The aim of ISO 44004 is to highlight ways in which larger organisations can help to improve accessibility for smaller organisations to mutually benefit from collaborative working.

Code of Good Collaborative Working Practice in NHS Supply Chains

ICW, ABHI and BSI have issued a joint call to Ministers at the Department of Health and Social Security to engage with industry in building collaboration that will support the supply chain for the NHS. In a letter to Edward Argar MP, the Minister of State for Health, the 3 chief executives - Claire Ward (ICW), Susan Taylor Martin (BSI) and Peter Ellingworth (ABHI) - set out how the organisations had recently worked together on a webinar to promote collaborative working in the health sector and had looked to other parts of the public sector for good practice, notably the MoD. They referenced the increasing focus upon collaboration and collaborative working by the government: "DHSC have stressed the importance of collaboration in the forthcoming Health and Social Care bill, requiring NHS organisations and other parts of public service to collaborate at system level and as local providers. We also note that the recently published Life Sciences Vision has collaboration between the NHS and industry writ large throughout, and that the new MedTech Directorate in your Department is developing its work programme and building its relationship with suppliers."

They have called on Ministers and officials to meet jointly with the organisations to discuss examples of good collaborative working practice, such as the recently published MoD and TechUK code of practice, which could form a blueprint for the health sector and provide significant benefit to the "NHS, the vibrant UK HealthTech sector and the patients we serve."

We are pleased to announce the successful official launch of ICW Australia, run by Brett Ackroyd and his team. The Webinar this week, supported by our Chairman Lord Evans and David Hawkins, together with several of our corporate members who have a footprint in Australia, was the jumping-off point for this new venture. The UK's relationship with Australia is longstanding so it has been one of our key areas for ICW development that started some time ago and is now formally established with the formation of a not-for-profit company and the start of a local steering group of likeminded organisations and individuals.

We are seeing the green shoots of adoption for structured collaborative working and this latest step provides a foundation for growth. Due to the lockdown requirements the event was held virtually, however over 60 organisations and individuals joined the launch, which is very encouraging for the aims of ICW to share our thought leadership via our various overseas branches. Better buying power, greater efficiencies and more innovative ideas are not just for big businesses. The publication of ISO 44003 is helping smaller players flex their collective muscle by making the most of strategic partnerships.

How many of us cooped up at home during the lockdowns and travel restrictions of the past year haven't dreamed of seeking out a simpler life, with easy access to nature, in a warm climate, sleeping underneath the stars? Some residents of a village in Jordan near the ancient city of Petra have done just that, leaving their bricks-and-mortar homes to live illegally in the caves of this UNESCO World Heritage Site hidden among the pink sandstone cliffs of south Jordan.

Their move, however, was driven more by economic necessity than realising a fantasy. These are Bedouins who used to make their living from the thousands of tourists who flocked to the "Rose City" daily - the café owners, the donkey and camel owners, the jewellery sellers. A report in The Times newspaper highlights their plight, saying the unfolding pandemic has been an "unmitigated disaster" for the small businesses of the region as tourism quickly dried up.

99% of all businesses in OECD countries are SMEs

DRIVERS OF ECONOMIC GROWTH

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are the bread and butter of an economy. They comprise anything from tradespeople to hairdressers, freelancers to larger companies with a turnover in the millions. Some have bigger workforces; others employ fewer than ten. Stephan Klingebiel, Director of UNDP Seoul Policy Centre, speaking at a webinar in July 2020 co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Korean International Trade Association, described SMEs as driving national output, jobs and capital flow.

"Unleashing the capacity of the private sector would have been impossible without SMEs," he said. "But global challenges, like the COVID-19 crisis, affect businesses and livelihoods and it is in all our interests to address these challenges."

In these unpredictable and uncertain times, businesses large and small have taken a battering, but the prospects for many MSMEs around the world look cloudy at best. A report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on the impact of COVID-19 on SMEs finds that, from being at the centre of the disruptions at the start of the pandemic, one year later "they stand in an even more precarious position, in particular young firms and start-ups, the self-employed, as well as women-led or minority-owned businesses".

This point was underscored in a session at the World Economic Forum's virtual Global Technology Governance Summit in April this year. Before the health emergency, SMEs in OECD countries represented 99% of all businesses, 60% of employment, and up to 60% of value added in the economy. Yet, despite the crisis, their potential remains untapped.

BUILDING TRUSTED RELATIONSHIPS

So how can we build back better and create an environment that facilitates access to finance and continuous investment in MSMEs to realise their full potential? If we have learned just one lesson from the past year, it is that collaboration, working together and building trusted relationships have never been more important. That is why the publication in April this year of ISO 44003, Collaborative business relationship management - Guidelines for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises on the implementation of the fundamental principles, could not have been more timely.

The standard is the latest in the ISO 44000 series which includes ISO 44001, Collaborative business relationship management systems - Requirements and framework, and ISO 44002, Collaborative business relationship management systems - Guidelines on the implementation of ISO 44001.

The importance of SMEs to economic growth and employment is crucial.

CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

David Hawkins is Chief Operating Officer at the Institute for Collaborative Working and Chair of ISO/TC 286, the ISO technical committee for collaborative business relationship management that developed the standards. He acknowledges the challenges ahead but also sees a silver lining in the many examples of larger organisations that are adopting a collaborative approach to help where they can.

"Clearly, many SMEs have struggled and the degree to which all are, to some extent, interdependently linked to their business communities has helped them pull through. The encouraging sign through COVID has been greater recognition of the benefits that collaborative working can provide," he says. He goes on to explain that those organisations that already had "structured approaches to their relationships" were better prepared and were therefore able to react and respond more quickly. "The importance of SMEs to economic growth and employment is crucial, so the introduction of ISO 44003 will, we hope, encourage more MSMEs to consider how they can harness collaboration."

A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH

This last point is worth making as the introduction of ISO 44001, he says, was seen by many smaller organisations as something for big companies. The business environment is a tough one these days and MSMEs struggle to avail of the opportunities in working together collaboratively. Hawkins says ISO 44003 addresses this issue.

"The introduction of ISO 44003 is something which can introduce a degree of structure to help build more sustainable relationships and thus opportunities for the MSMEs. At the same time, many larger organisations equally recognise the value MSMEs bring, so later this year we hope to publish a parallel guide for larger organisations to show how they can engage better."

Shaun McCarthy, Chair of the Supply Chain Sustainability School and an independent adviser, author and speaker in sustainable business policy and practice, also sees the value of the new ISO standard in promoting collaboration. He says: "The majority of businesses worldwide could be classed as small to medium enterprises and many public procurers around the world have an ambition to do more business with them. Collaboration is key to maximising value from these buyer-supplier relationships."

Collaboration can undoubtedly bring a wide range of benefits to businesses but, as McCarthy points out, the dynamics of a small business are very different from a large one. That is why ISO 44003 can give SMEs an extra boost. He says: "The ISO 44000 series provides essential guidance on managing these relationships in a way that demonstrates you don't have to be big to be collaborative."

CREATING A NEW LEVEL OF DIALOGUE

It is clear that ISO 44003, along with the rest of the 44000 series, can play a significant role in helping MSMEs adjust to the "new normal". Hawkins says that while technology has helped, COVID-19 has shone increased light on organisational resilience, so confidence in external providers will be a key factor going forward.

Sustainable relationships will be important and adopting a structured approach helps build confidence; and ISO standards provide the necessary frameworks for these relationships. "At the institute," he details, "we are piloting a programme based on ISO 44003 so we can encourage MSMEs to develop their approaches and larger organisations to create a new level of dialogue."

David Murray, publisher of The Business Magazine, based in the UK, says that the SME sector is where enterprise, innovation and productivity are at their best. With the help of an International Standard like ISO 44003, the sector stands a greater chance of building a stronger recovery, thereby getting the economy moving again and helping us all to realise our dreams.

Dave Macdonald handing over the Baton for ICW in Australasia

On 1st August 2021, Dave Macdonald will be handing on the baton for the continuing development of ICW in Australasia. Since the initial meeting in London between ICW (UK) and Dave back in 2014, Dave took on the mantle to establish ICW in both New Zealand and Australia, and since then has had a leading role with ICW (UK) in the development and implementation of collaborative working both corporately and individually in New Zealand and Australia. Dave is a great advocate for collaborative working and has taken an active role in ICW's thought leadership, which was one of the reasons Dave was drawn to ICW.

Through his energy and enthusiasm he established an ICW footprint in both New Zealand and Australia. Leading the charge he was responsible for achieving the first certification to ISO 44001 in the Southern hemisphere, and with our friends at Downer in New Zealand, also developing and delivering the first ICW training courses in that part of the world. Both Bill Taylor and David Hawkins have worked with Dave and his ICW team in supporting their activities.

Despite the time difference Dave never appeared without a smile at the many early morning or late night meetings that have taken place over the years.

Dave has decided it is the right time to hand over the baton to others to take ICW - in both New Zealand and Australia - to the next level. Chris Olson and Erik Barnes are taking up the baton for ICW New Zealand, and Brett Ackroyd is doing so in Australia. They are all looking forward to building on Dave's legacy and taking them forward to the next level.

Brett will be working closely with ICWNZ team while he builds his ICW Australia team.

Dave is not going to disappear entirely - he will still be championing his passion for collaboration wherever he is needed.

David Hawkins, Chief Operating Officer ICW (UK), commented that ICW would like to pay tribute to Dave and thank him for all his hard work in supporting and promoting collaborative working under the banner of ICW in both Australia and New Zealand.

ICW Launches Pilot Programme to Encourage Engagement in Collaborative Working for MSMEs

In parallel with the publication of ISO 44003 ICW has initiated a programme in conjunction with its Executive Network members to enhance their engagement with Micro, Small and Medium size Enterprises. Following the work done by our SME Special Interest Group we have introduced a stepped approach to incorporating a structured approach to collaborative working. This approach has been designed to work through the procurement arms of our executive member companies enabling them supported by ICW to evaluate and recognise collaborative capability of their supply chain partners. Whilst initially this pilot is supported by ICW members discussion are underway through a variety of public and private sector organisations to expand the approach later in the year.

ICW is pleased to announce that ISO 44003 - Collaborative Business Relationship Management - Guidelines for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises on the implementation of the fundamental principles has now been published.

This new Guidance Standard is the result of efforts by the ICW team and the ISO Standards Committee over many months. It is the next member of the ISO 44000 family of standards and has been specifically developed to support smaller organisations harness the benefits of collaborative working as a route to a more structured approach. As MSMEs represent a significant contributor to economic growth it has long been the aim of ICW to encourage smaller organisations to develop their collaborative capabilities. The publication of this standard marks another step in the vison of ICW to see collaborative working make its contribution to both government and industry. ICW is currently planning to launch a pilot scheme via its Executive Network members to help their MSMEs gain recognition for their collaborative approaches. Later this year it is scheduled to publish ISO 44004, which will encompass guidance for larger organisations to enhance the way they engage with MSMEs for mutual benefit.

COVID-19 vacs: Collaborative working between PCN and community pharmacy sites

In the nation's critically important race to get as many eligible patients vaccinated against COVID-19 as possible, local collaboration and team working between all COVID-19 vaccination sites is now of the highest priority.

One good example of how community pharmacy and Primary Care Network (PCN) vaccination sites can cooperate effectively comes from Bishop Auckland in County Durham.

A collaborative model has been developed between the pharmacy site, which is part of the Knights Pharmacy group, and the general practices in Bishop Auckland that are running the PCN vaccination site.

The team-working commenced from the point the pharmacy site was selected by NHS England and NHS Improvement, with the regional team organising a call between the pharmacy and PCN leads to discuss how a collaborative approach to working could be put in place.

The agreed model involves the pharmacy splitting planned clinic days between the National Booking System (NBS) and the PCN, so the general practices can directly book some of their patients into the pharmacy site slots. The initial focus was on helping the practices maximise the number of clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) patients that could be vaccinated.

The PCN and pharmacy site have also coordinated the timings of their vaccination sessions at the weekends to try to avoid patient confusion as to which site is operating at any one time. Both these approaches have helped maximise vaccinations at both sites and avoid patients double booking appointments.

Peter Horrocks, Superintendent Pharmacist at Knights Pharmacy explained:

"The first week the pharmacy site was operating, the appointments all booked up quickly via the NBS, but by the second week, bookings filled up more slowly. We also found that some patients were travelling a significant distance to get vaccinated and the pharmacy team wanted to make sure local patients were also getting the chance to be vaccinated within their community.

"Once we agreed a plan with the PCN and regional team to remove some booking slots from the NBS, the practice teams very quickly filled the appointment slots with CEV patients. Winner's Biography

Peter Walmsley first became interested in photography through his chemistry teacher who ran an after-school club. He struggled with film for many years until a whole new world of image creation opened up, with the arrival of digital cameras. He joined a local camera club where the combination of supportive learning and regular competitions helped him to improve and gain various photographic qualifications. He subsequently became a judge in the Southern Counties Photographic Federation.

Peter earns his living as a civil servant, helping to deliver aid projects to developing countries. This aligns with a significant interest in foreign travel, particularly to east and south east Asia, which led in turn to an interest in street photography as a means to capture local culture as seen through daily life.

ICW Collaborative Leaders Course

On 7–10 September 2020, ICW successfully ran its first classroom-based Leaders Course since the Covid-19 lockdown in March.

With an emphasis on safety, we have to give a massive thank you to our hosts at Scarmen Conference Centre, Warwick, for ensuring the strictest levels of cleanliness, social distancing and availability of PPE. All delegates have expressed their appreciation for the many steps taken to ensure social distancing and the highest levels of sanitation and cleanliness throughout their stay.

On the course itself we welcomed delegates from public and private sector organisations. Benefitting from cross learning, and the unique material of the course, we are pleased to say all delegates successfully passed our testing requirements and will be invited to become members of ICW.

Equipped with new skills, perspectives and contacts, they will return to their respective organisations to play leading roles in the effective adoption of collaborative working. We at ICW will follow their collaborative journeys with interest!

8th September Share & Learn: Covid-19 - Collaboration 'New Normal'

Thanks to all who joined our recent online session, which brought together both ICW members and representatives from a number of institutes and associations to exchange experiences and ideas as to what we have learned so far from addressing the pandemic. The discusison and input was both lively and informative around the challenges faced and how these may influence us in the future. Many examples came across as to how organisations had quickly adapted to harness technology and the value of their robust relationships both internally and externally in difficult times. Several common themes developed including the need for leadership to ensure they create the right balance going forward where home working may be seen to have economic benefits carried the risk of diluting both internal and external relationships, people need interaction. There was a focus on the need to temper the use of technolology and build trust both within organisations and external relationships so the technology does not become a barrier to effective engagement. Behaviours at every level had a strong focus during the discussions to ensure maintaining a work/life balance. The full recording will shortly be available on the ICW website.

The Future of Collaboration

The World will never be quite the same again after what we have and are experiencing during the last few months. And there is no doubt that structured collaboration supported organisations in addressing the challenges that the pandemic threw at them that was an unexpected added value outcome from structured collaboration and one that we probably never expected.

But given the "new normal" it's hard now to imagine a work environment where governments do not need to collaborate in a structured way with its critical suppliers. Ensuring the things we need to keep our armed forces strong, our police ready and informed, our health workers safe, and our vulnerable citizens protected. A world in which organisations don't need to have secure, reliable, mutually beneficial relationships with customers and supply chain partners particularly when those supply chains might stretch around the world.

The new structured collaboration will look somewhat different than it does today; we will see virtual teams that rarely if ever meet up face-to-face using technology such as Zoom and Teams, and those technologies will respond to the challenge by improving their platforms still further to facilitate enhanced collaboration in a world in which we meet face-to-face less often.

To facilitate this our universities will need to upgrade the courses they run to ensure the collaborative leaders of tomorrow understand and have the right behaviours embedded within them, and of course we will increasingly do business in a world where "how we deliver" is as important as "what we deliver".

We will need to do develop the skills to do business with organisations from different cultures and with different values whilst still staying true to their corporate values and the values of the society into which they provide their products and services.

Organisations increasingly want a structured approach that is both highly adaptable and agile, that enables them to establish relationships rapidly, with different types and sizes of organisation.

And structured collaboration is a key ingredient it provides:-

a clear understanding of the objective for collaboration
a mutually agreed understanding of what value is and what value is expected to be accrued
a basis for knowledge and information sharing
governance structure(s)
clearly defined ways of working together
expectations around behaviours and the development and maintenance of trust within the relationship
a culture of mutual respect

The future of collaboration is an exciting place; how we collaborate will be different and it will help us address new and emerging challenges, but the fundamental principles that underpin collaboration today will still hold true in the future.

VolkerWessels Achieves ISO 44001 Certification

There was a high level of both energy and support for ICW creating a focus for this topic. Jeremey will be pulling together the many ideas over the next couple of weeks so we can start to develop workstreams to support SIG core team.

On Friday 29th May we held the first ICW Thought Leadership online interactive forum. It was a great success with over 25 participants, all of whom made valuable contributions on how collaboration will develop in the future.

The session was led by Frank Lee from BSI - a Fellow of the Institute - and by our COO David Hawkins.

Key points that came out included a view that collaboration will become more and more valuable and relevant in the future and will continue to deliver value when applied effectively, but the nature of the value derived may well change as we understand how a collaborative environment brings business benefits, not just in traditional cost and efficiency measures but through increased welling, staff retention, sustainable business models and improved environmental and performance and profile.

The forum also focused on developments in collaborative competence and particularly the competencies to be a collaborative leader in the new post COVID world where relationships will have to be developed with less face-to-face interaction; the need for greater upfront effort in partner selection; the importance of culture, of understanding through rigorous internal assessment the profile of your organisation to collaborate and the cultural fit you will need with a potential partner.

Frank also led a short discussion on the importance of ethical partnering ensuring that your partner shares your commitment to human rights, sustainability, equality, habitat protection and diversity.

Given the success of this event we plan to hold more similar events in the future. The next is focused on Collaborative Leadership, on 4th June, 10:00-12:00.

House of Lords Reception moves online as ICW adapts to coronavirus normal

The annual ICW House of Lords Reception on 14 May had been booked since 2019 and is a regular feature of the ICW calendar. The arrival of coronavirus, lockdown and social distancing soon put a stop to an event that normally attracts over 200 people, but the team at ICW were not to be so easily put off.

In collaboration with one of our ICW Ambassadors, BSI, the event was hosted with a bit of a difference. The 'Not at the House of Lords' reception was transformed into an online event with some significant speakers and even included the presentation of certificates.

It was an opportunity to show members and guests that, whilst life may have changed significantly for millions of people both in their personal and working lives, the principles of collaborative working are even more important during this time.

The reception is the second that I have attended as Chief Executive and we have made so much progress in the last year since I spoke at the event at the House of Lords in May 2019. We had promised some significant changes to the structure of our organisation, the way we communicate and the work that we do to drive engagement in collaborative working, including the launch of new Special Interest Groups. Our online event was an opportunity to update members on all of this progress.

The event was opened by ICW Chairman Lord Evans, who introduced some of the key themes of the work of the ICW team and members especially during the current crisis. In keeping with his annual tradition, he recited a poem he had written entitled 'Heroes', which paid tribute to the NHS staff on the front line.

We were also joined by some superb speakers with a real understanding of collaborative working across the public sector. Coleen Andrews, the Director of Markets and Suppliers at the Cabinet Office, joined us to talk about the importance of collaboration across the public sector, especially at this time of global pandemic. With many of our members working with government and especially through the Cabinet Office, they were particularly keen to hear how Coleen viewed the opportunities for collaborative working.

Another guest speaker, Lord Victor Adebowale, Chair of NHS confederation, talked about his experience of collaboration in the NHS and the importance of systems working together. The pandemic has created opportunities for new ways of working and has accelerated the use of technology in the NHS.

Martin Townsend, Global Head of Sustainability at BSI, reminded us in his presentation of the value of collaborative working to build global sustainability.

Awarding certificates is a key part of our annual reception, and not even a pandemic was going to disrupt this opportunity to recognise those companies that have been successful in obtaining ISO44001 - Devonport Royal Dockyards Ltd, Sellafield Ltd and Capita. David Hawkins virtually presented the certificates and we were delighted to be able to recognise this achievement amongst the ICW community. David also awarded a certificate of validation as part of our consultant affiliation scheme to Axon, together with a certificate to BM Trada who have been certified in the ISO 44001 validation scheme.

We took the opportunity to update our community on the launch of the Annual Collaboration Awards, which are now open for submissions across a number of different categories. We have a number of events planned, some of which are online, for the coming months.

Every summer the ICW launches its publication The Partner. Despite the lockdown and disruption, we did not want to stop, though we have been unable to arrange for printed copies at this time. We used the online event to launch our digital version of The Partner and this can be downloaded on PDF or viewed online. This year the focus is on Collaborative Leadership with some superb insight from a number of our ICW Ambassadors and leads of the Special Interest Groups.

ICW Bridging International Boundaries

Over the past weeks ICW has been linking up on various fronts through technology.

15th April ICW supported Warwick University teaching 30 students across China as part of their MSc programme on Reputation and relationships.

17th April David Hawkins our COO held a 2-hour talk hosted by BSI China to hundreds of business government people providing insight to the work of ICW and the potential in these difficult times to harness the power of collaborative working. This was the prelude to a series of online courses planned for May.

21st April The ISO committee for ISO 44001, chaired by David Hawkins and supported by members of the ICW community, held its first virtual meeting as a result of having to cancel the planned meeting in Ottawa focused on moving forward ISO 44003 principles for SME collaboration. A further virtual meeting is scheduled for the end of April to progress the ISO 44004 guidance for larger organisations working with SMEs.

22nd April David Hawkins was online providing the keynote address to a joint webinar of CiiWA and ICW Portugal, addressing collaborative working in the light of CoVID-19 and the challenges and risks associated with the rush to go online and the impact of cyber security.

ICW Attends First E-conference

David Hawkins and Alan Maund were the ICW presence at BSi's Annual Standards e-Conference Spring 2020 on 23rd April.

Originally planed to be held at the Central Hall, Westminster, BSi decided to continue with holding it but take it on to Zoom and hold it as an e-Conference.

Instead of having stands for the Knowledge Market, each exhibitor was allocated an e-Brakeout room where delegates could drop in to meet David and Alan.

It worked well as you could talk to a number of visitors all at the same time and hold interactive discussions with delegates. We were definitely busier than we would have been with just the normal stand.

FIRA International supporting NHS Nightingale Hospitals with testing

UKAS-accredited testing house FIRA International, and service provider to the Furniture Industry Research Association, has been supporting the new NHS Nightingale hospitals by providing free flammability testing for Rivertex Technical Fabrics Group, who are supplying material for Nightingale medical mattresses.

FIRA International tested the materials to BS 7175:1989 Methods of test for the ignitability of bedcovers and pillows by smouldering and flaming ignition sources, which included a Crib 5 test, classed as medium hazard.

Speaking on their work for the NHS Nightingale hospitals, Guy Lynch, Managing Director at Rivertex Technical Fabrics Group, said "Our Rivertex® 500FR polyester fabric is specially intended for use within medical mattresses, so we were able to have a quick turn-around to support the NHS effort.

"We're supplying material for the production of tens of thousands of medical mattresses to be delivered to the NHS, along with material for key personal protective equipment (PPE). In order to achieve the lead-times we are grateful that FIRA International took swift action to undertake the testing stipulated by the NHS."

Howard James, Operations Manager - Testing, at FIRA International, said "During these difficult times it's important for us to support organisations like Rivertex Technical Fabrics Group with their crucial testing.

"Although it is far from 'business-as-usual' for so many of us, FIRA International has a key role to play for manufacturers and retailers, so we're operating within strict safety and social distancing guidelines in order to keep testing and ultimately keep end-users safe."

ICW Portugal Partner SHIFT makes contribution to frontline health workers

Due to social distancing requirements, hospital cafeterias now have a more limited capacity, causing a larger number of people to stand in line and spend critical time waiting their turn. SHIFT Management Consulting, a partner of ICW Portugal, has developed a free App, using Power Apps, to control cafeteria access, provide shift availabilities and allow reservations. This way, all hospital staff can better manage their breaks and mealtimes, allowing hospitals to optimise their resources, minimise contact and reduce food waste.

This App was created based on a real need from the hospitals of Centro Hospitalar Póvoa de Varzim – Vila do Conde (CHPVVC) and SHIFT is making it available as-is, and for free for other hospitals.

ISS appointed to deliver cleaning, portering, and waste management services at Nightingale Hospital London

ISS Facility Services has been appointed to deliver cleaning, portering, waste management and other soft FM services at the newly created coronavirus treatment facility.

The Nightingale hospital, based at the ExCel conference centre in London's Docklands, will initially provide up to 500 beds equipped with ventilators and oxygen. The capacity will then continue to increase, potentially up to 4,000 beds.

A specialists ISS Training Academy has also been created onboard the Sunborn Yacht Hotel, adjacent to the exhibition centre, where all FM staff will receive the appropriate training before entering the new hospital.

Matthew Brabin, ISS CEO commented: "We're honoured to help our nation in these extraordinary times and I am doubly proud of our great people who have made this possible".

A huge well done to all of the #GreatPeople for making this happen and helping to create solutions for Covid-19.

Innovative 'pop-up tent' could be latest line of defence for frontline NHS staff treating patients with COVID-19

A disposable plastic 'pop-up tent' that creates a protective barrier between patients and healthcare professionals could be the latest line of defence for frontline NHS workers thanks to a new product developed by a team from the UK.

Designed by experts at the University of Birmingham, the Disposable Resuscitation, Intubation and Nebulisation Kit Shield – or DRs INK Shield - is a compact device designed to cover the patient's head, neck and shoulder area while treatments for COVID-19 are administered.

The transparent plastic shield, which features self-closing access points, protects medical staff from airborne droplets that may put them at risk of contracting the virus while allowing them line-of-sight access to the patients airways to perform life-saving procedures such as inserting or removing breathing tubes.

Barrier products like these already exist, however current designs are often hard walled boxes which are not only difficult to store in large numbers, but difficult to manoeuvre in emergency situations. The DRs INK Shield is around five times lighter and one third of the cost of currently available solutions.

Its pop-up design means it can be assembled in seconds as well as easy to store prior to use while the disposable material means that it can be disposed of along with other clinical waste.

The project, which has rapidly moved from conception through product development to launch and taking orders in less than a week, has brought together the expertise of staff from the University's College of Medical and Dental Sciences and College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

Design lead Matthew Campbell-Hill from the Institute of Clinical Sciences said: "We're told that COVID-19 is primarily spread through respiratory secretions which transmit the virus via the fine spray of droplets released when infected people talk, cough, sneeze or even yawn.

"With much of the treatment for the virus focused around the airways, it is imperative that healthcare workers are protected from potential contamination while still being able to deliver the vital treatments that will save people's lives.

"Our shield offers an additional form of PPE that can be rapidly assembled during emergency situations adding an extra layer of protection for frontline staff. Staff who have used it report increased confidence in their personal safety, as well as the ease of use and lightness. While this design has the potential to be a vital tool during the current pandemic, we envisage its use in a range of care settings beyond hospitals including ambulances, care homes and public areas."

Dr Richard Williams, Research Fellow in the Healthcare Technologies Institute added: "Taking the time to fully understand the clinical problem and then move at speed was essential. Even in this national emergency, some basic considerations of placing a product into service still apply. We drew upon our key contacts and worked remotely to provide an appropriate solution in a timely manner with the ability scale."

Element Materials Technology lends support to increase ventilator production

London, UK - April 2, 2020 - Element Materials Technology (Element) is lending its support to the national drive to increase ventilator production in response to the NHS' urgent demand to treat coronavirus patients in the UK.

Element has developed a testing regime to cover the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and basic safety requirements for a Rapidly Manufactured Ventilator System (RMVS) prototype being developed by a number of manufacturers and consortia. Before new devices can be categorized as ‘safe' for use in medical working environments and brought to market, it is necessary to determine if a device can perform safely and provide its essential performance without causing harm and/or electromagnetic disturbances in its appropriate operating environment. This is typically achieved by testing to applicable medical safety standards.

Safety test plans drawn up by Element's Advisory Services team based in Malvern are being used to perform the testing from its product qualification testing (PQT) laboratory in Hitchin. Element also provided EMC test plans to manufacturers who will carry out the initial phase of testing, while phase two testing will be carried out by Element from a number of its PQT facilities.

Mark Heaven, Divisional Director Global Aerospace PQT at Element said: "We are delighted to be able to offer our expertise, free of charge, to support the national effort to fight COVID-19, and are already in discussions with other medical device manufacturers to carry out EMC and safety testing on their RMVS prototypes this week. Element hopes to continue to offer our integral safety conformity services throughout this period of high demand for ventilators."

Element Hitchin is one of our safety testing centres of excellence, with UKAS accreditation to BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Our areas of technical expertise at Element Hitchin include Medical Testing & Regulatory Affairs, Safety Testing and Certifications & Approvals. We work with manufacturers of electrical medical devices; are approved to ISO 9001:2015, and typically provide medical regulatory testing and test reports to European EN 60601 series of standards and American pre-market authorizations the 510(k) route, which are the core standards/procedures for medical product verification.

MICW Clare Tunnicliffe becomes one of Boris's clinical people

MICW Clare Tunnicliffe from Atos has become one of Boris's 22000 clinical people! She writes: "My first degree is in pharmacy but I stopped being a pharmacist a couple of years ago because I wasn't working in a clinical environment. Pharmacists were asked to rejoin the register as part of the call-up and just over 3000 have. I am currently volunteering within my local community pharmacy in evenings and weekends to help with the increased demand. I am still working full time in my normal paid work supporting collaborative development but it's great to be able to support my community and feel I am making a bit of a difference."

Kier Highways team donates PPE to Birmingham City Council

Last week, The Kier Highways team successfully mobilised, and started working on, the Birmingham Highways Ltd contract. The team has donated 40,000 disposable gloves to Birmingham City Council to provide care teams across the City with vital, much-needed PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2020 Training Course Schedule Announced

However, to ensure we have a minimum cohort to make the courses work for the participants, we may need to cancel individual courses and defer bookings. First ISO 44001 achieved in New Zealand

ICW is delighted to announce the first ISO 44001 certificate in New Zealand has been issued to Downer NZ Ltd Transport Services division. The certificate was issued by BSI under the ICW Validation Scheme. Implementation was supported by the team from ICW New Zealand and ICW UK.

DEWA achieves ISO 44001 Certification under ICW Validation Scheme

ICW Chairman Lord Evans was delighted to present Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) with their certificate for achieving ISO 44001. The BSI certificate was presented to DEWA MD & CEO HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. This is the first certification to be achieved under the ICW scheme to be awarded in the Middle East region, and we hope it will provide a beacon for collaborative working and further close association with DEWA.

The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) held their conference to promote the adoption of Collaborative Working and ISO 44001. ISO’s International Standard for Business Collaboration, ISO 44001, helps organisations get the most out of working together. A new guidance document provides further insight to help them take it to the next step.

The benefits of collaboration in the business world are many, and include the generation of innovative ideas, reduced costs through efficiencies and sharing of resources and access to new services and technologies.

‘ISO 44001, Collaborative Business Relationship Management Systems – Requirements and Framework’, assists companies in establishing and improving collaborative relationships, both within and between organisations.

Now organisations can take the guidance to another level with the recently published ‘ISO 44002, Collaborative Business Relationship Management Systems — Guidelines on the Implementation of ISO 44001’. Defence and Security Share and Learn event 25th September

Kier Appoints Louise McMahon to ICW's Foundation Members Board
